Women United: Fall Luncheon

 YMCA: Dolphins Program

Jamie SanFilippo

  • 12 children participated in the Dolphins Camp during Summer Camp at our Penns Valley Branch, in Partnership with A Journey to You, Counseling Services. Dolphins Camp is a therapeutic camp for children ages 7-11 years old.

  • The 12 children completed 6, 1.5 hour sessions. They learned how to express their feelings respectfully and appropriately through art, writing, music, and play. They also learned effective ways to cope by learning about mind-body connection.

  • We use the analogy of the sea to allow them to be creative and to better understand their mind, bodies, and how they are a part of a whole. The children gained an awareness that they are important and significant and their choices and actions not only affect themselves and those around them, but the whole entire sea.

Pictured: The kids traced themselves to the paper and put circles in different areas of the body where they typically feel certain feelings. They were then asked about a variety of feelings and circumstances and had to identify where in their body they felt them
